If you watched Paul’s Pro Tips video this morning, you know that West Texas has had a bit of rain lately. Though the Permian Basin usually welcome precipitation in any form, poor weather on your moving day can pose a bit of a problem. However, professional movers are skilled at how to move in bad weather, regardless of high summer temps or rainy days.

Can You Move in Bad Weather? Yes, If You Follow These Tips

Check the Forecast Frequently

Though weather forecasts aren’t 100% accurate, it’s important to check the radar for storms. If a significant storm is quickly moving through the area, it might be an opportune time to take a break from moving your items.

Protect Your Belongings

If it’s pouring down rain, you should probably skip trying to move during the torrents. However, if it’s a light rain, just use extra packing materials! Moving blankets and plastic make for great protection against inclement weather, especially in snowy or rainy conditions.

Get Extra Help

If you didn’t hire a professional mover, try to get extra people to help you move. The job will get done faster when you have more people helping you.

Safety First

In rainy, snowy, or icy conditions, it’s critical to make sure that sidewalks and walkways are safe. When you’re handling fragile or heavy items, the last thing you want to do is slip. Not only do you risk damaging your belongings, but you also increase the probability of injuring yourself.

Stay Warm, Stay Cool

Frostbite and chills are no laughing matter. Though we don’t get many days of super cold weather in the Permian Basin, be sure to take enough breaks so you can go indoors to warm up. Though the physical activity of moving will increase blood flow, it’s still possible to make yourself ill in cold conditions. Additionally, it’s critical to stay cool and hydrated during hot summer months. Don’t risk sunstroke if you’re moving in the heat of summer.
